Hot, sexy Dalek girls?!

image thumb Hot, sexy Dalek girls?!This was passed on to me yesterday and I just had to share.

Daleks wouldn’t be nearly so intimidating if they looked like this. There would probably be a few more Dr. Who fans too I think.

VIPRE Antivirus and Antispyware. Less hoggish, just as good

The problem with a lot of Antivirus and Antispyware software is that it tends to be cumbersome and bloated.

By it’s very nature Antivirus Software and the like have to start up with your operating system. You have to wait for the applications to initialize before you can do anything on your computer and it’s always sitting there in the background, scanning and hogging precious resources.

I came across a nice little Antivirus and Antispyware suite that isn’t nearly as resource intensive as the other big names out there and does just as good a job.

VIPRE Antivirus and Antispyware has a big selling point in that their software is high performance yet has a low impact on your system resources.

The software (of course) scans your system in real time, detecting malware, viruses, and more – even in your email.

They have smaller, regular virus definition files so that you don’t have to spend forever waiting for a download.

It’s well worth checking out – see more and get a 15 day Free trial (the software after the trial is a bargain at $29.95).

Gmail now supports Drag and Drop

Gmail just keeps getting better and better!

Announced yesterday and spotted in my email this morning Gmail now supports Drag and Drop (messages to labels), and a bunch of other cool little features.

The labels have moved (just when I had got used to seeing them on the right of my mail too) they’re on the left, above the chat now.

You can hide and show labels. Gmail has been kind enough to show you the ones you use most to get you started.
No longer do you have to see all the labels, all the time.

You can drag and drop your messages to your labels. Each email message now has a little handle to the left of the check box.

Great stuff!

Google Latitude… “Coming Soon” – Really? (iPhone)

For quite some time now Google has promised iPhone users the Google Latitude application. image thumb Google Latitude… “Coming Soon” – Really? (iPhone)

To be honest, I thought it would come out with the release of the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone version 3.0 software. Alas it didn’t.

There has been much talk and a great many complaints pertaining to how Google has handled Latitude and it’s iPhone audience.

Currently Google Latitude is supported on:

All the iPhone users have is a “Coming Soon” screen. And it’s all that has been there since Latitude’s initial release.

Some would say that all Google needs to do is not hold that Carrot out and just say “it’s not supported yet”, others think that Google should give iPhone users a release date or at least let them know what the delay is.

Personally, I can’t wait for Google Latitude to appear on the iPhone. I do think it’s taking Google too long to release it on the platform but I’m not going to rant and rave about it (well, at least not much more than I am now).

Google gives us so very many wonderful applications and services, many of them for free. Google Latitude is a free service. Beggars can’t be choosers, right?

If someone else (Microsoft) were to release a Latitude-like service and it were to be available on the iPhone then that would be Google’s loss.

It may not be good business sense to just lease your customers –potential and existing- standing and waiting but let’s face it, it could be another year before Google releases Latitude on the iPhone and we’ll groan and complain about it but we’ll all still download and use it.

Learn.com launches The Learn.com personal edition (free stuff)

Learn.com is certainly one of the better Elearning services on the Web. As far as I’m concerned at least. image thumb Learn.com launches The Learn.com personal edition (free stuff)
The idea behind Learn.com is to provide users with a single, central, integrated platform for people wishing to better themselves through skill improvement and general education. It works! When it comes to posts like this I often get to thinking what kind of a job I’d really like to be doing, and honestly, right now, I’m happy doing what I am. However, doing what I do in a completely computer oriented industry you have to study and stay ahead just to keep up with everyone else. This is why my face lit up when I saw the free courses that Learn.com has included in their Personal Edition LearnCenter.
Things like, Career Development – Been there, done that, now what?, Choosing a Home Business, (different) Microsoft Office Fundamentals, Stress Management and more.
If you know me you know that in a few areas of my life I have “been there and done that” so the “Now what?” course worked for me and provided some enlightenment. Of course I like to take any fundamentals course because, even though I teach the stuff, no matter how much you think you know there’s always some little thing that pops up to surprise you.

It all aides you in keeping up and giving you the opportunity just to get ahead.

As well as the courses they have laid out already Learn.com allows users to share their development and information with employers.

You can even create your own courses. If you use custom software for example, why not create a course and keep track of who has taken it?

3 Great energy saving devices for your home

    energy

    Author: Chriss Tyrrell

One of the major shortfalls of home energy saving devices of the past was that for the most part, they simply weren’t cost effective. Sure the technology was amazing and very heartening to see it come up, but face the facts. In the end, it was always cheaper to just keep on wasting the electricity. Seriously! Who would spend $100 to save $20? It was, to say the least, a very tough sell.

There Was Always the Convenience Issue

At the same time convenience was always an issue. You see, as much as people wanted and in some cases were even willing to pay for these earlier energy saving products for the home, they tended to be bulky and not very easy to apply. What was need were “simple to use” compact solid state devices that could be simply plugged in and used just like an alarm clock.

    Hey Apple! Find my iPhone!

With the 3.0 update to the Apple iPhone came a few new features. One feature works with Apple’s MobileMe suite and can actually find your phone for you… and more.

I signed up for the Trial of MobileMe just to check it all out.

After signing up and setting MobileMe up on my PC and iPhone I quickly logged in to see just how accurate the phone location would be (see graphic).

It’s pretty close. It might take me a while to actually find me phone should itimage thumb Hey Apple! Find my iPhone! really be lost (heaven forbid) but at least I’ll have an idea of where to look.

I’ve heard that in some areas the location can be very, very precise. I guess it depends on the GPS coverage in your area.

image thumb 3 Hey Apple! Find my iPhone!Other features in ‘Find My iPhone’ include the ability to send a message to your phone i.e “Hey, you stole me iPhone, please give it back” and make it play a sound (even if it’s silent) it’ll keep on playing too until it dies or you find it.

A Hawaiian church service on your iPhone?!

HONOLULU, June 30, 2009 — Less than two weeks after the
release of Apple’s iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3.0 update,
    Honolulu-based New Hope Christian Fellowship
(http://www.enewhope.org) has announced that it will begin
streaming its weekend worship services live to iPhone and
    iPod touch users.

Live streaming to the iPhone was one of the most requested
features from church attendees, and is now possible with the
inclusion of HTTP live streaming in Apple’s iPhone 3.0
software. New Hope’s addition of live streaming to the
iPhone is significant in that it is the first non-profit
organization to offer this type of service.
