One-Click WordPress Upgrading

One-Click WordPress Upgrading

image thumb One Click WordPress Upgrading A couple of days ago WordPress released version 2.3.2 of the WordPress Blogging Platform.

WordPress is the most popular (and freaking awesome) Blogging Platform currently on the market.

Here are the details on 2.3.2 according to Ryan from WordPress:

“WordPress 2.3.2 is an urgent security release that fixes a bug that can be used to expose your draft posts. 2.3.2 also suppresses some error messages that can give away information about your database table structure and limits and stops some information leaks in the XML-RPC and APP implementations. Get 2.3.2 now to protect your blog from these disclosures.

As a little bonus, 2.3.2 allows you to define a custom DB error page. Place your custom template at wp-content/db-error.php. If WP has a problem connecting to your database, this page will displayed rather than the default error message.

For more detail on what’s new in 2.3.2, view the list of fixed bugs and see the changes between 2.3.1 and 2.3.2.”

Maybe you got a message in your WordPress Dashboard stating that there is a new version available.

Upgrading can be somewhat daunting however (a WordPress downfall) it involves backing up, downloading the new version and installing it over the old one and stuff in  a multi-step process.

I’m not one for multi-step processes and I like things to be made easy for me. I found a plugin that actually upgrades WordPress for you! [found here] the aptly named “Instant Upgrade Plugin” really works too – I took it for a test drive this morning and it all went smoothly and easier than I expected (which is always good).

To use the plugin you need to be familiar with and be able to FTP to your blog.

Check out the web site to download and install the plugin.  If you’re wary of doing the upgrade drop me an email and I’ll see if I can help you out.
