CB Radio definitely has it's place and was one of my first hobbies. But, Amateur (Ham) Radio is a lot better at being prepared for emergencies. Hams use a wide range of frequencies and modes which can be best suited for local or world-wide communication as opposed to 40 CB channels at 4 watts, which are only good for a few miles at best. Plus you don't need to know any Morse code to get a basic license, and contrary to popular belief, you can get a basic ham rig for not much more than a CB.
