‘Green’ traffic lights? what took so long?!

‘Green’ traffic lights? what took so long?!

To me, this is a no-brainer. I’m kind of kicking myself for not thinking it up.

There’s a ‘Green’ Traffic Light on the Yanko Design blog. It’s remarkably simple.

It’s a single light box with a circle of LEDs (Red, Amber, Green)and a solar panel on top.

Of course, the Solar Panel charges the light and the LEDs indicate the old stop, get-ready, go, etc.

Of course it makes perfect sense. There’s only one light set to illuminate, this saving energy and drain from the Solar Panel charged battery.

LEDs last forever and are much brighter than traditional bulbs. image thumb Green traffic lights? what took so long?!

Why do we need 3 lights on a traffic light anyway?

"Why do we need 3 lights on a traffic light anyway?"

Since there is a small but significant portion of the population that experiences red/green color vision deficiency, the standardized positioning of the lamps enables these person to still drive without needing to be able to recognize the difference between red and green. This lamp suggestion would pose a problem for those drivers
  • Yeah I guess I did know that. hmmm
Maybe there could be an additional, small er signal or something.
There must be a way around it.
