Turn your webcam into a security camera
I spotted this online this week and just had to write about it.
There’s a piece of software called ‘Vitamin D’ that makes setting up a home security camera using your own web cam a snap!
Oh yeah, Vitamin D is free too.
Using some pretty tricky commercial grade technology, Vitamin D detects humans and vehicles, giving each a different colored box.
You can even filter your video results. You can search clips for people entering a specific door or leaving through a specified door.
Rules can be set up telling the system to record an event, i.e opening a specific door. On that event a picture can be emailed to your email account.
Wow. Truly commercial grade motion detection software for your home… for free.
