It’s a self appointed title – believe it or not. Yes, there are actually people referring to themselves as a “Search Engine Optimist”.
Let us break this down a little with the help of my friend the internets (
)
”Search Engine”: Noun – A program for the retrieval of data, files, or documents from a database or network, esp. the Internet.
”Optimist”: a person disposed to take a favorable view of things.
Hmm ok – yeah that actually kind of works.
Now, I’m sure that said “Search Engine Optimist” actually means, when they use the term, that they’ll optimize a web site for optimum search engine exposure, not that they’ll look at it hopefully and favorably and hope for the best.
One could even see the title as that of a person who would take your money and hope for the best when it comes to ranking on a SERP (Search Engine Results Page).
Obviously a grasp of the English language is something of a requirement (in English speaking countries) for those offering Search Engine Optimization services.
A word of advice – when looking for Search Engine Optimization, look for a reputable company that doesn’t promise to do it all for you and doesn’t offer the World. They can’t deliver and they can’t keep it up long term.
