CES never fails to bring some of the most interesting new technologies and attention-grabbing booth displays. Some years there are a bevy of new products and categories, while other years seem to be marked by incredible upgrades to existing technologies. This year some exciting advancements were made, especially in the field of home entertainment. Here’s a look at five products that entered the scene at CES 2015 and are deserving of some attention.
Samsung 4K Bendable SUHD TV
Some of the best products showcased at CES this year in home entertainment fell primarily into two categories: televisions and audio. As far as TVs are concerned, no one showed off anything more dialed in than Samsung. The powerhouse brand shared many innovations and updates, but the 105-inch bendable TV took the cake. As part of the Ultra HD TV line, this particular model’s size is especially noteworthy. But size isn’t all that matters. The reason this TV stands out is because the screen can go from curved to flat with the push of a single button. Additionally, boasting 4K resolution, quantum dot technology and a Tizen-powered, smart-TV platform, Samsung has unleashed a TV in a class of its own.
Samsung Glasses-Free 3D 8K TV
Who doesn’t love 3D movies? But, sometimes it can be hard to love them when you have to wear those awkward, uncomfortable 3D glasses. Although it might be fun to don a pair of the shades in the theater, nobody wants to wear glasses to watch TV in the comfort of their home. Now, Samsung has made glasses-free 3D viewing a reality with its monstrous 110-inch TV. While this product isn’t intended for the public (yet), it was built with 8K resolution—something virtually unheard of since 4K is the latest coveted resolution. Samsung has pushed the boundaries and revved up our imaginations with this gem.
Google Cast for Audio
Pairing Google and innovation is hardly unusual. And they have done it again—the company introduced some pretty forward-thinking technology at CES this year. One of the most striking was related to the world of audio. With Google Cast for Audio, the tech giant has created a way for individuals to stream music from any connected device through Google Cast-enabled speakers. What does this mean exactly? You can use your smartphone, tablet or computer to send your music wirelessly to your speakers. This is the same technology as Chromecast for your TV, but now for your music. This seems to be how music will be consumed in the future.
Sennheiser Wireless Headphones
In the vein of audio, Sennheiser, the maker of the popular TV headphones, came out with wireless editions of its most popular headphones: Momentum and Urbanite. The brand promises undeniable comfort with over-the-ear and under-the-ear varieties available. Beyond the unparalleled sound quality, the wireless connectivity offers Bluetooth and NFC-pairing. For people who are in the pursuit of optimal sound quality or those who must wear headphones due to noise constraints, Sennheiser’s options can’t be beaten.
House of Marley Sound Bar
House of Marley continues to be an innovative brand for audio gear of all types, and the products it showed at CES were no exception. And, with the presentation of the One Foundation sound bar, the company raised expectations even more. The sound bar is centered on the Qualcomm AllPlay platform that encourages an open source environment for audio equipment to communicate. While this is exciting in and of itself, the best part is that it’s brand-agnostic, which gives consumers more options and deciding power.
As is typical, CES shows us some phenomenal new technologies and adds some extravagant items to our wish lists. Especially in home entertainment, we’re seeing some exciting tech on the horizon. Now, we can only imagine what next year will bring.
