The market for online dating has grown significantly in recent years. The market experienced a rise of 36% between 2013 and 2015 alone. While online dating sites and apps are popular across many age groups, dating apps in particular resonate the most with 18 to 24 year olds. They are the largest users of mobile dating apps making up a 22% share. In contrast, the 45 to 54 year old segment make up a 5% share.
Research indicates that almost 1 in every 10 adults have ever used a mobile dating app at 9%. This is triple the percentage of people who had ever used dating apps in 2013 which stood at 3%. Slightly more men than women make use of online dating apps, although there are only slight percentage differences at 10% for men and 8% for women. There is a wider difference when it comes to the urban and rural divide. For example, 10% of those using online dating apps live in urban areas, compared to the 6% that use online dating apps who live in more rural areas.
