JC Carter is feeling excited and inspired these days. His company, Wrecking Crew Media, really hit its stride in 2011, winning the most business in its seven year history. On top of that, Wrecking Crew was honored with a prestigious Telly Award for its music and editing work on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ “A Great Day for Hockey” television spot.
“2011 was the biggest year we’ve had in the history of the company,” Carter said. “We really came into our own in the last year, evolving from an audio/video production company into a complete digital content creation company.
“I feel that I have the right team of people in place who can think, create and interact with clients in the way I’ve always imagined Wrecking Crew being able to do.”
Wrecking Crew got its start in 2004 doing radio and audio jingles for local advertisers. By 2006, the studio had delved into the world of video creation and never looked back.
“I remember very clearly when the first client asked us if we could do video,” Carter explained. “At that point, I knew I had a very big decision to make that would define my career and Wrecking Crew Media.”
The timing really couldn’t have been better for Wrecking Crew to enter the video production business, or digital content creation as Carter refers to it. Now, six years later, video is an integral part of every company’s marketing strategy. With the proliferation of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter into the corporate world, that’s the baseline that has been set.
“The volume of online video is doubling every year,” Carter said. “It used to be that we would have to sell people on using video in their marketing, now you don’t have to convince them. Clients often come to us saying ‘I need a video for my website.’”
Just as a forward-thinking customer led Wrecking Crew into the video space back in 2006, the company’s creative process is completely customer-driven.
“To by successful in this business, you have to truly immerse yourself in the client’s work and let the creativity lead you and not the technology,” Carter explained. “That’s the mistake that so many studios make. They focus on the technology instead of the customer and that’s where trust is lost.
“Storytelling is at the core of everything we do. By truly understanding someone’s business and their goals, we leverage storytelling to create impactful digital content that drives new business.”
