Pittsburgh, Pa. – On Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will celebrate the success of its Tropical Forest India exhibit and other accomplishments past and present when community members and leaders gather for the public garden’s annual Wines Under Glass gala. Against the festive backdrop of Fall Flower Show’s harvest-hued chrysanthemum blooms, this pre-Halloween soirée, which has a masquerade theme this year, will treat guests to delicious cuisine, delectable wines and lively entertainment at what is sure to be one of the most colorful parties of the season.
Wines Under Glass — with Krishna and Om Sharma as event chairs — will commence at 6:30 p.m. with a private V.I.P. Reception for benefactors complete with fine wines and small plates. At 7:30 p.m., all other guests will join the revelry in time for the Peacock Party, which features select wines, Indian-inspired cuisine and other savory fare, live music, dancing and more. In the spirit of the season, guests are also invited to add to the fun of this elegant affair by donning masks for the masquerade. Masks, however, are optional and Phipps will have some available to lend to interested parties.
Founded by philanthropist Henry Phipps as a gift for the people of Pittsburgh in 1893, Phipps remains one of the only conservatories worldwide to offer themed seasonal flower shows, upholding a long tradition of horticultural excellence. The nonprofit has also reinvented its campus with additions like the Center for Sustainable Landscapes, one of Earth’s greenest buildings, establishing a name for itself as a global leader in the sustainability movement while preserving the splendor of its Victorian glasshouse. These and other accomplishments will be celebrated at Wines Under Glass, along with Tropical Forest India, which has inspired millions of visitors since it first opened three years ago. The exhibit will close in January 2015 as an exciting new Tropical Forest Congo exhibit is installed for a February debut.
