Technology advances exponentially. The better technology is, the faster it improves. That’s why there are already a handful of amazing futuristic gadgets on the market you might not even be aware of. You’ll think these gadgets were pulled from a science fiction film, but these are items you can buy today.
Oculus Rift
The Oculus Rift is a headset that fits over your eyes and ears. Elon Musk, creator and owner of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, used the Oculus Rift to develop engines for his spacecraft and design the first viable electric car. But for the average citizen, the Oculus Rift is advertised as the next immersive video game platform, with three-dimensional realities wherever you look. While the hardware isn’t at industry standard yet, Oculus is in development of powerful machines. Like the hardware, the software is also limited, as major developers are still wondering if the technology will be a viable means of profit in the long run. While the Oculus Rift still has limitations, it is likely to become more common place in the future.
On the outside, the Oculus Rift might look like a cheesy retake on the virtual reality gimmicks of yesteryear, but the device has been developed in an age with technological support. Oculus revealed its new headset earlier this year at a pre-E3 event. The new headset won’t hit the market until the first quarter of 2016, but there are a series of Oculus Rifts already for sale.
Wireless Cameras
Security cameras were once so expensive only large companies and the rich could afford them. With the advancement of technology, however, home security has become more affordable. Lorex has a variety of state-of-the-art HD wireless security cameras. 720P and 1080P cameras aren’t out of your economic reach anymore. With these cameras, you can view your live feed or past footage from your computer or smartphone. Lorex cameras work in both daytime and low-light conditions. When light dips, these cameras automatically switch to night vision, with a range of 130 feet. Indoor or outdoor, Lorex cameras are weatherproof and cold ready, so they never stop protecting your home.
OLED Flexible Technology
It was back in 2013 when Samsung first revealed its Youm smartphone. While this wouldn’t have been big news if it had just been a new style, Samsung utilized OLED technology and designed high-definition screens that were not only bendable, but completely flexible. This phone can be folded nearly in half, the screen unharmed. With screens made of thin plastic, the risk of a broken phone if it is dropped or sat on decreases dramatically.
While it looks as though Samsung abandoned the Youm brand soon after announcing the OLED technology, it still uses this flexible tech for some of its wearables, like the smartwatch, Gear S and Gear Fit health band. While no completely foldable phone has yet to be released, OLED technology will take center stage as it becomes more inexpensive to manufacture. Look for this futuristic material in smartwatches and smartphones in the coming years.
