So you are in love with your Microsoft/Nokia phone but your ready for an upgrade. Luckily, Verizon has the new Microsoft Lumia 735 primed and ready for you. Is it worth your upgrade? Lets have a look and find out.
Lets start by looking at where you spend most of your time, looking at the screen. It is 4.7 inches and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch resistance. The screen is OLED with TrueColor and ClearBlack Technology. This gives you great picture and video with lifelike black for all your picture and video viewing. The screen has a refresh rate of 60 Hz and features super sensitive touch. This allows you to adjust the sensitivity to work even when wearing thin gloves. This is something you can’t do with most other smart phones. Take it from someone who has worked on an ambulance for the greater part of the past 15 years. It can be a pain trying to use your phone to look up medicine dosages or protocols while wearing latex gloves.
The body of the Lumia is made from plastic and is very light weight. For being made of plastic, the 735 is surprisingly durable. During testing, the body fared far better than the screen. The screen ended up with a scratch on it.
The only open ports on the exterior of the phone are the microUSB charging port and headphone jack.
If you prefer wireless headphones and connections, the Microsoft Lumia 735 has Bluetooth 4.0 which gives you a quick and reliable connection and also very efficient when it comes to battery life.
The plastic body is removable and allows you to get to the changeable battery. This is a feature that you don’t see in hardly any smartphones anymore. Also, under the panel is the access for both the sim card and the microSD card slot. Yet another feature that I feel is great and is missing from smartphones is that microSD slot. It’s nice to be able to upgrade your memory for cheaper than buying the next size up phone. The back cover also has the electronics built onto it for the wireless charging. Just lay your phone on a compatible charging base and it charges, no wires needed.
Thanks to the Quad Core processor, the Lumia 735 runs very smoothly and without lag. The RAM is only 1GB on the 735 but it’s enough to keep this phone running. For your storage, you have 16GB of space with expansion of up to 128GB with Windows 8.1 .
One feature that Verizon offers that isn’t available on the Lumia 735 is HD Voice and HD Video. Hopefully this clear voice technology will be available in a future update (hopefully with Windows 10).
Another downside to this phone is since it doesn’t have as big of a following as Android and Apple, some app’s and games that are on both the other makers phones.
Battery life is one of the big deciding factors for some when you purchase a smartphone. The Lumia 735 has a battery life of 24 days of standby time and up to 24 hours of life while in use. These numbers are from Microsoft and Verizon. My actual usage with this phone was around 7 to 8 hours. This is higher than some other phones for me is the fact that the gaming I normally do, I couldn’t with the lack of games in the App Store.
Picture quality for the Lumia 735 is lower than most other smartphones out now. The main camera is only 6.7 MP. While it’s less than the iPhone 6s or the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the photo quality is still surprisingly good and the camera has a F1.9 Aperture and ZEISS Optics. Thanks to this combination you get the picture quality without a high MP number.
The front camera is 5MP and does an excellent job for both your Snapchat selfie as well as that video conference for the big business meeting you have.
If you are looking for a decent entry-level smartphone that won’t break the bank, the Microsoft Lumia 735 may be just what you are looking for. The monthly price for this phone is $8.00 and if you want to buy the phone outright, it will only set you back $192.00. Make sure you head over to the Verizon Wireless Website or head over to your local Verizon store and pick one up today.
