Why use FeedBurner? Well, mostly because it’s Awesome! (and the fact that Google bought it makes it that much better)
"FeedBurner is the leading provider of media distribution and audience engagement services for blogs and RSS feeds. Our Web-based tools help bloggers, podcasters and commercial publishers promote, deliver and profit from their content on the Web."
We use FeedBurner to ‘burn’ all of our blog, podcast and other RSS feeds.
There are more than 800,000 feeds total being burned, more than 470,000 and about 124,000 podcast and video cast.
They keep it really, really simple too.
If you have a blog, podcast or something else attached to an RSS type feed just grab the feed address (the really long one that no-one likes) and hop over to FeedBurner.com.
Put your feed address into the bog on the front page and off you go. Because there is minimal registration information you get up and going very quickly.
It’s a setp by step process, work through the options in the three (pertinent) tabs, publish your feed address (i.e http://feeds.feedburner.com/techburgh/Techburghcom ), maybe add a little code to your web site and you’re ready to go!
Each time your site is updated Feedburner notifies certain promotional services, it adds links into your blog and feed items (digg this, email this etc etc) and makes your articles that much easier to spread.
You can analyze your feed too. Use Feedburner to tell (about) how many people subscribe to your feeds and visit your sites (I use this feature along with other reporting tools).
Enable your users to subscribe to our site via email or their favorite reader or service, see who is subscribed (via email) and how people are subscribing. See what pages they’re visiting and so much more.
To sum up, it’s free, it’s worth a try. Promotion is never bad, right?
