The term SERP is commonly used in online and more so in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) circles.
It is thrown around a lot but rarely defined. Maybe it’s because there is an assumption that everyone knows what it means but for those who don’t – here it is.
SERP simply means Search Engine Results Page.
From Google, Yahoo! and Bing to Facebook, MySpace, Personal blogs and corporate sites – anything that uses a search box has a SERP.
The Search Engine Results Page is pretty much what you see when you search for something using a search engine.
How you rank with regards to SERP of course matters a great deal, the greater your SERP number the less of a chance there is of someone finding your site.
A site ranked #1 in SERP appears on the first page of a (or most) search engines for a given search and have a very good chance of being clicked and visited. If your site is appearing on the 50th page of a search engine result, the chances of being seens aren’t all that great – to say the least 🙂
How you get from bottom to top? well, that’s a different story 🙂
