For those of you who don’t know, Google has a great alert service.
If you’re not using it, haven’t seen it or just haven’t checked into it for a while it’s worth a look.
Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.
Some handy uses of Google Alerts include:
- monitoring a developing news story
- keeping current on a competitor or industry
- getting the latest on a celebrity or event
- keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams
I have about 18 alerts set up. I don’t get alerts for all of them every day, just when there is something to report.
For example, I have alerts set up for "Andrew Quayle", "Andy Quayle", "TechBurgh" and even "bacn".
It’s interesting to see who is saying what about you, your site or blog. It’s also fun to see what your namesakes (if any) are up to. Apparently there are a few o me in Australia, even a female Andy Quayle.
A word of advice though, use quotes (") when putting in your criteria otherwise it will send you more than you anticipated 🙂
Example. Quayle could send a lot with regards to a certain American political figure.
